The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these.
A child’s mind is a beautiful one. They have the ability to come up with wonderful ideas that are pure of heart. At a Catholic School in Santa Cruz, children were recently taught about human dignity and solidarity.
A 5th grader named Elijah came up with a brilliant and heartwarming idea to help the homeless people in the area.
Elijah’s Teacher says,
“He lit up and he said, ‘I know! Let’s make sandwiches for the homeless people in the park across the street. We could take the sandwiches and eat with them so that we can spend time with them and then they would have someone to talk to.’”
The entire fifth-grade class participated in helping their community and are now passing the job of making sandwiches on to next year’s fifth-grade class. Although these 5th graders will not be making sandwiches anymore they are not done serving others.
