Stories Of Survival
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart”
According to the World Health Organization, “an estimated 43.8 million babies are killed annually from being aborted worldwide.” It is a troubling number because it is difficult to even wrap your head around. So as an illustration of how staggering a number that really is, consider that if we took just the amount of babies aborted in New York City, in one year alone, it could entirely fill Metlife Stadium- leaving many outside waiting at the doors.
These numbers are certainly depressing but take heart in that the tide seems to be changing in the country. Many of our young people are starting to see through the political smokescreen that has allowed this to happen for so long. Out of these tragedies, God can also raise up some of the greatest stories of victory and redemption. Here are 4 babies that miraculously survived the abortion attempts on their lives.
For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him?
Baby Jack Harper – When Vikki Harper was 24-years-old she discovered that she was pregnant. Already having two children under 5-years-old she just didn’t see how it would be possible to have a third. Harper struggled with the decision, feeling like there was no good option for her, she recalled to the Mirror:
“It wasn’t an easy decision. I love my kids more than anything in the world, but I just didn’t have the strength for another.”
She decided to go through with the procedure, but nine weeks after the baby was supposed to have been “aborted,” Vikki still felt pregnant. It was then that she found out that little Jack had survived.
Baby Amelia Hunt – When she was 20-years-old Shannon Skinner was advised by doctors that giving birth again would be a risky health decision. She told the Daily Mail that doctors led her to believe that there really was no other choice than to abort. She explained:
“When I found out I was pregnant with Amelia, my first instinct was to keep her, but I kept thinking of Lacie and how unfair it would be on her if anything happened to me and she was left alone or I couldn’t look after her.”
Shannon decided that the best option for her was a pill that induces abortion in women by “causing the uterus to contract and expel the embryo.” However, 3-months after taking the pill, medical scans showed that little baby Amelia was coming whether the doctors were prepared for her or not.
After giving birth Shannon says she was overwhelmed with emotion saying:
“What she needs to know is that she is loved and wanted. If we had the chance again we would do everything differently, but we thought we were doing the right thing at the time.”
Baby Knights – When doctors told Ariel Knights that because of a genetic condition, the best decision for her health would be to abort her pregnancy she was devastated. Already having a 2-year-old son to raise made it a decision that affected more than just her own life had she decided to take the risk. Knights reluctantly got an abortion, but “seven months later, she ended up giving birth to an amazing and healthy baby girl.” She told the Akron Beacon Journal:
“I mean, it’s just hard, thinking she’s here and thinking, if they would have done their job…it’s just something I don’t like to think about.”
“Knights sued the abortion clinic doctor citing that the abortion was never completed and is unsure what exactly was removed from her body.”
Baby Urhegyi – Catherine Urhegyi’s situation is unlike most of the other stories you hear. She was told by doctors that her baby had died and that there was nothing they could do but either have the miscarriage naturally, take a pill to induce the birth of the dead baby, or to have it removed through a medical procedure. Urhegyi chose to take the pill, but 2-days-later she began bleeding profusely and went to the hospital. After receiving a scan, to everyone’s surprise, the baby was alive having essentially “come back to life.” Cathrine told Redbook:
“I was overcome with shock because I began to worry about how the drug might have harmed my baby. A consultant told us it was our decision, but due to the possible harm our baby may have suffered from the pill, it was still an option to continue with the abortion. However, there was no way, having seen my baby’s heart beating on a scan, I could carry on.”
It really is amazing how God can work even some of the worst situations for his glory, and certainly his plans for us will ultimately prevail no matter how someone may try to stop it.
