“Man’s Best Friend” Becomes “Best Man” For Wedding
Back in 2012, an IED explosion in Afghanistan caused Lansford to lose his left leg.
He explains to Laura Spencer in 2014,
“I was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and we were in eastern Afghanistan in early 2012… We struck an IED and it flipped my truck completely. I had bilaterally severed femurs which resulted in the amputation of my left leg.”
After returning home to recover the army veteran was then given a two-year-old Golden Retriever, named Gabe, who would help him with his post-traumatic stress disorder.
The dog was truly a blessing for Lansford in helping him with daily tasks and even proposing to his then girlfriend. The dog served as his best man in their wedding. Embellished with all of Lansford’s badges, Gabe walked down the aisle with the couple.
Warrior Canine Connection, the place where the Gabe graduated as a service dog, congratulates the veteran and his now wife on their recent marriage on their Facebook page.
“We speak often of our goals and mission to help wounded Warriors reconnect with life, their families, their communities, and each other. We speak of the day our service dog trainees are placed with their forever Veteran and for Justin and WCC’s Gabe II, that day occurred in 2013.
When we speak of the bond between a Warrior and his service dog, we’re often filled with pride and joy. Sometimes we get to speak of a bond so tight, that as is the case with Gabe, he will be given the honor to suit up in his Warrrior’s dress uniform and medals and stand beside him as his best man.
Wishing Justin, Carol, and Gabe, a lifetime of joy. May you live happily ever after!”
