An Artist Breaks Immigration Barriers Through Her Artwork
Ana Teresa Fernandez has led about 30 volunteers for in the painting of the Nogales fence between Arizona and the Mexican state of Sonora. As we all know, the border between the USA and Mexico has long been a symbol of division of 2 different worlds. Today, that symbolic wall has been torn down.
The artist painted the border fence sky blue to “erase” divisions among the 2 countries.
“The idea behind ‘Erasing the Border’ is to blur the border fence into the landscape giving the impression that a portion of it is missing, an illusion of a hole in the wall, where your imagination is able to cross between these two countries freely,” she said to Yahoo News via email.
Fernández carefully picked out a color that would be the closest to a natural sky type of blue. She covered about 50 feet of the southern side of the 25-foot-high fence.
