Doctor’s Worst Fears Become Reality When She Notices Something Strange About Her Baby’s Leg In A Sonogram
The picture above shows Talia Gates, husband Josh Gates, and son Kye Gates. She seemingly has it all: beauty, intelligence, a thriving career, and a beautiful family.
Although it may seem picture perfect, the family’s world was about to be turned upside down.
Life seemed to be falling perfectly in place: “I remember thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, I am super lucky. My life is perfect, and I am super blessed.’ ”
Talia and Josh decided to have another baby. They were trying for a baby girl, which was the missing piece in her world.
“WHEN WE FOUND OUT IT WAS A GIRL, I WAS OVER THE MOON’!
On October 2014, Talia found out she was pregnant with a baby girl, and she couldn’t have been more thrilled. “When we found out, we were like, ‘We’re done. I have my perfect little family.’ ”
As an OB/GYN, Talia had access to an unlimited ultrasounds, so she frequently checked on her baby girl. About 16 weeks into the pregnancy, she noticed that her baby’s legs measured a little short. Talia shrugged it off as a odd position her baby was in.
At 18 weeks, I saw that her legs were still measuring at 14 weeks, but I sort of blew it off and thought we weren’t getting a good angle, or that she was sitting funny.”
At nineteen weeks, the leg measurement hadn’t changed, and soGates began to worry. An appointment with a specialist was then made.
I convinced myself that she must have some sort of chondrodysplasia (dwarfism). But it never entered my brain that it was something that could be lethal. I don’t know if it was God protecting me or what. I stayed up all night.”
Her specialist diagnosed Her baby with skeletal dysplasia, which was fatal.
“I was sad my daughter would have struggles, but I never thought she wouldn’t be with us until the doctor said that.”
Her doctor gave her the option of terminating the pregnancy, one that she fiercely refused.
“You are a mom or dad the moment you get that positive test.”
The family continued to bond with the baby, knowing that the possibility of it not living a full life was a reality.
Their beautiful baby girl was born on June 12, 2015 and was alive for just 49 minutes.
For Talia and her family, those 49 minutes were among the best in their life.
