When Celine Dion lost her husband René Angélil to cancer 4-months ago, the world felt her pain. We previously covered how the beloved singer has since made several emotional tributes to the love of her life during her performances. She has kept his memory alive and she never forgets to mention of how she owes her outstanding career to his support. As she prepares to take the stage for this years Billboard Music awards, she opened up about her late husband, her career and her future in this week’s issue of People.
In the magazine, she makes it clear that she plans on moving forward with her life and career. A planned cover performance of the song, “The show must go” by Queen, is scheduled as she receives the Icon Award.
“Renee has always insisted the show must go on,” Celine explains. “You know what, I’m 48-years-old and I’ve lost the love of my life. I miss him a lot from when he was great but not when he was suffering. I cannot be selfish. I have to let him go. I feel at peace.”
Celine says that her goal now is for her kids to see her being strong through their trials. ” I really really want to prove to my kids that their mother is strong,” she told People.
Doctors removed a tumor from René’s throat in 2013, but the cancer returned in 2014.
We pray for the strong men and women like Celine who have lost their husbands or wives. God is with you, always.
