Son Captures Moment When His Father Gets His Dying Wish
Jim and Cindy Mininni had been inseparable since the moment they fell in love. Like any couple, they faced many challenges in their marriage. However, nothing would compare to what was to happen next.
Eight years ago, Jim was diagnosed with lung cancer. He went through intense rounds of chemotherapy with Cindy by his side. Doctors gave Jim a 10 percent survival rate, that’s when his family knew they were going to have to face the reality that Jim was no longer going to be a part of this world.
As if things couldn’t get any worse, Cindy suffered a heart attack during her husband’s final days and was transported to a different hospital. Their son, Chris, would travel back and forth to visit his parents. He tried desperately to get his mother transferred to the hospital where Jim was. Jim struggled to scrawl three little letters on a piece of paper: “M-o-m.”
It wasn’t until Jim struggled to write three little letters on a piece of paper: “M-o-m.”
Who could say no this man’s dying wish to be with his wife? Hospital staff rallied together to put every effort possible toward getting Cindy over to her husband’s hospital.
Jim was on life support and Cindy was off of it, but they still shared the room with one another.
On May 3, the transfer was officially made, and Jim got to hold the hand of his sweetheart one last time just moments before he passed away. Chris captured the beautiful moment on camera, a moment his family will forever cherish.
“The one thing that encapsulates my dad in this lifetime is that he loved my mother with all of his being. That’s why I love that photo so much—I feel like it shows it. I wanted to show my mom when she got out of the hospital that dad was hers almost until his very last breath. She wasn’t able to witness the power and love he was showing her. I want people to see how much love they had for each other. My parents got to be together until the end. We should all be so lucky.”
