Father Fights For The Custody Of Daughter After Mother Signs Adoption Papers Without Him Knowing
Colby Nielsen, 20, of Cache County, Utah, is fighting for the custody of his baby girl after his girlfriend put her up for adoption. According to Nielson, him and his girlfriend agreed to raise their daughter together, but after a week of giving birth, she gave their daughter up for adoption without having the consent of Nielson.
Nielsen began the legal paperwork to raise his 2-week-old daughter by himself, but was forced to give his daughter to the adoptive parents by a court order.
Under Utah law, a child’s birth mother has the right to put up the child for adoption without consent from the biological father.
Nielsen plans to fight the adoption in court.
