“I know it was God”
KSDK-TV, St. Louis – A 16-year veteran was off duty at the time when four suspects pulled up to his car and opened fire says St. Louis Police.
The off-duty officer recalls the moment,
They were just walking. There was nothing particular about them but the hairs on my neck stood up,”
“And at that point there was a voice that told me grab my vest. I know it was God.” He put back on his vest, saving his life.
Although the officer can’t talk specifics since the four suspects are still facing charges, he believes the shoot-out occurred because of the suspects who must have targeted him upon seeing him in uniform.
It is documented that the suspects had pulled up to the officer’s car and opened fire on him. In defense to the ambush, the officer fired back. In total, more than a dozen shots were exchanged and his car had taken over 14 hits.
“I realized I was shot.” The officer began to pray for “the peace of mind to stay alive” for his young son and his wife.
Although he had been hit, he chased his alleged attacker long enough to get a description.
The 39-year-old sergeant said that his “prayers were answered.”
The vest in which God had told him to put back on stopped the bullet near his ribs.
I know it sounds funny, but I’m glad that I stood in the gap of someone else not being a victim of these individuals wanting to cause crime in the neighborhood. I’m glad I was there to stop them from doing that and make an arrest on these guys before they hurt anybody else.”
When he was asked whether he would stand in that “gap” again, without hesitation, the sergeant said, “absolutely.”
