A Piece Of Monumental and Biblical History Has been Uncovered By Archaeologists in Israel!

Archaeologists have discovered the gated entrance of what was known as the home of Goliath—a giant warrior that was conquered when Israelite King David knocked him down with a slingshot, according to the Old Testament. The town of Gath was ruled by the Philistines until the ninth century B.C.

The excavation team was initially looking for barricades when they first uncovered the gates. The barricades around them are so massive, it’s expected to take a few more years to fully dig up the land.

Although only the very top of the fortifications have been revealed, the team presumes that the walls were built strongly and securely so that the Kingdom of Judah could not expand toward the west.

“We knew that Philistine Gath in the 10th to ninth century was a large city, perhaps the largest in the land at that time,” said lead archaeologist Aren Maeir to Live Science.
