While Northern California communities come together after the devastating Butte and Valley wildfires, a special group of rescue is being called for to tend to the survivors of the infernal fires. Animal rescue groups and veterinary hospitals have been responsible for restoring countless animals back to an almost full state of recovery.

As of now there is no official count of animal injuries or deaths. Animal control officer Shirley Zindler estimates that there are “many thousands of animals affected by the fires through death, injury or displacement.” The fires have claimed at least six human lives and destroyed more than 1,000 homes.

Although the damage that the wildfires have caused cannot be undone, the animal rescue organizations are working with local communities to do whatever they can to help the affected wildlife that has clung dearly to their life.
