“Get off work, grab some dinner, drive to the kitten nursery, put in a couple of hours of bottle-feeding kittens and go to bed feeling like a hero.” – Eric Rayvid, a rep. for Best Friends.
Best Friends Animal Society, located in both Salt Lake City, Utah and Los Angeles, California have created a wonderful volunteer program to help shelter kittens more adoptable.
Their goal is to provide them with love and care in their early life to make them more comfortable with human interaction.
Kitten nurseries across the country are so populated with orphaned kittens that need intensive 24/7 care.
“Since kitten nurseries operate 24/7, there is a need for volunteers to help out at odd hours, which can be very convenient for those who work during standard business hours,” explains Eric Rayvid.
These life-saving tasks that are performed around the clock are just the beginning. These orphaned kitties need socializing in which the volunteers can provide.
The program was first launched 2 years ago and other shelters and rescue groups decided to reach out to Best Friends to help build nurseries in their own communities.
