Love your enemies is a commandment of God, that if fulfilled, will bring you closer to Him!
Matthew 5:43-48 (KJV)
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
God says that we must love our enemies. If we are to call ourselves Christians, wouldn’t that be the right thing to do, as difficult as it may be? Ask God to open up your heart, to people that have wrongfully used you. Was Jesus not our example? His thoughts were with those that were persecuting Him, as He was being crucified.
LUKE 23:34 (KJV)
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an eloquent, Christian man. He was filled with God’s wisdom—always conveying a message of love, hope and redemption. He was sadly assassinated, by someone that did not recognize that Dr. King truly loved the soul of his killer. Yet, thankfully, his words live on, so that we may be able to share them with generations to come!
