Ashley Schaus from Santa Claus, Indiana, sent us her story that brought us to tears.
Ashley first met her other half, Will, 5 years ago while she was still in High School. She had told him that if she wanted to date her there was a catch. She is a packaged deal.
Her best friend and little sister, Hannah, has Down Syndrome. And, like a good big sister she is very protective and loving Hannah. The deal was that he had to love and accept Hannah for as she is.
And Will did just that and more. In that 5-year span, he “went above and beyond taking care of her.”
Ashely tells us:
“He always insisted on bringing her on dates, calling her after she got off school to see how her day was and bringing her flowers on Valentine’s Day along with Christmas and birthday gifts. He also helps us with her diabetes by checking her and just helping us keep an eye out on what she eats. Awhile back when we had begun to talk about getting married, we talked about how we would involve Hannah.”
Will insisted on getting Hannah a ring so she would feel “just as special.” They were then able to have her grandmother’s engagement set resized for her.
This last week, Will “proposed” to Hannah in a very special way. He got down on one knee and asked her to be his friend forever, and that he would always love and protect her. Hannah was so excited and happy that tears began to fill her eyes.
After celebrating the happy moment. Will then got on one knee and asked Ashley for her hand in marriage.
Ashley and her fiance, Will, plan on including her in her wedding in a very special way. Will and Hannah will also be having their own brother-in-law and little sister vows as well as her own “first dance” after Ashley and Will’s.
Ashley tells us that her little sister “is absolutely thrilled.” The wedding is set in spring of 2018.
We couldn’t be more happy for you all. This is truly a beautiful way to build a bond between family members. As Colossians 3:12 states:
“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;”
Will, not only can we agree that you will be a great husband but also a great brother-in-law for Hannah. God bless you!
Just look at the smiles you put on these lovely ladies’ faces. 🙂
