Desperate Mother Finds The Answer To Her Baby’s Skin Bleed On The Internet
Everything seemed like a picture perfect time in Stephanie Smith’s life. Her newborn son Isaiah had just came into her life, but for the first time in their lives, they lived through what seemed like hell.
Smith saw that a red rash broke out on Isaiah’s skin when he was just 3 months old, that’s when their living nightmare began. Everytime Isaiah was exposed to any type of perfume or intense scents, the rash would become worse. More and more exposure determined the degree of the rash, up until the skin started to rupture and began to bleed and discharge.
Isaiah’s doctors diagnosed him with a severe case of eczema. He was prescribed a steroidal topical ointment, little did the doctors know that this was the worst thing in the world he could have been prescribed.
Isaiah’s entire body turned red, and his pain intensified greatly. To treat this, Smith applied more ointment. It was a never-ending cycle of pain for little Isaiah.
Doctors can’t explain the situation. Isaiah’s hair starts to fall out, and at this point he stopped being responsive.
“The doctors said it was just eczema,” says his mother Stephanie. “Many doctors came in and out of our room. We saw a GI doctor who told me I was poisoning my son with my breastmilk and I needed to stop immediately.”
For 5 months, Isaiah had to be covered up in special medical bandages. Smith couldn’t even put her cheek against his without his skin falling apart!
Isaiah only feels better while in water, which is why Stephanie spends hours sitting next to him while he rests in the sink.
“It was like he had no skin,” says Stephanie. “He was constantly in pain. One time it was so bad that I thought: if this is to be his life, then take him to the next one.”
In a desperate motherly act, Smith turned to the internet for answers. In a forum she found a thread on ‘steroid withdrawal’, which touched on the subject of skin conditions. She saw pictures of children with the same problem. She knew then what was causing her baby’s skin condition.
“There they were talking about the side-effects of the steroids and how it could make skin problems worse when you stop taking them.”
Smith stops her son’s steroidal treatment at once. Instead, she opts to make her own ointment and lotions. Her ointment combination of lemon grass and zinc is what started to give results. Isaiah began to develop spots completely free of inflammation.
After 10 months of steroid withdrawal, Isaiah’s skin returned to normal and was finally given the chance to live as a happy baby.
“We saw 35 doctors. They all said that it was eczema. I want to show them the pictures where you can see how Isaiah’s skin has recovered.”
