Strength, Faith, Love

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28

NBA assistant coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Monty Williams, gave a beautiful, as well as biblically sound eulogy at a memorial service for his wife that died tragically in a car accident recently. The bold speech of forgiveness and love left attendees in tears. Visitors were strengthened and inspired by the message from Williams, which embodied the message of Romans 8:28, which says, “All thing work together for the good of those that love God.”

Williams remarked during the service, “This is hard for my family, but this will work out. And my wife would punch me if I were to sit up here and whine about what is going on. That doesn’t take away the pain, but it will work out because God causes all things to work out.”

His encouragement touched hearts and reminded people about the importance of having faith in Gods plan. Alvin Gentry, head coach for the New Orleans Pelicans, and a guest at the service told NOLA, “I was glad I was there. Monty made everyone feel better in a really difficult situation and what has happened and the tragedy that’s gone on and even making reference to the other family. To me, that’s something of the highest character of a person that you could possibly ever think of.”

Williams closed the service saying, “In my house, we have a sign that says, ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.’ We cannot serve the Lord if we don’t have a heart of forgiveness.”
