A Photo Is Surfacing Where You Can See An Autistic Girl Celebrating Her Party All By Herself – Now The Internet Is Stepping In
This picture was taken of Hallee Sorenson, an 18-year-old girl with autism, on her birthday. She celebrated her birthday alone because none of her friends or classmates showed up to spend some time with her.
In a Facebook post that has over 146,000 shares, Sorenson’s cousin, Rebecca Prefontaine, said her cousin had been excited to bowling and have some cake with her friends. But when none of her 20 friends that she had invited didn’t attend, she felt “heartbroken and beyond sad.”
Her mother, Allyson Seel-Sorenson, says that her daughter is “the biggest love bug in the world” who appreciates and loves everybody. Seeing her sit and cry next to her birthday cupcakes in her party hat was an “absolute heartbreak.”
It’s hard enough to explain to a child who understands what’s going on. But when you have a kid like Hallee, who doesn’t understand and was hurt for the first time in her life…as a parent, it was horrifying.” – Seel-Sorenson said.
During the party, Hallee’s mom did her best at hiding her emotions, she was crying so hard that she couldn’t talk. After the party, they donated the food to a local homeless shelter and just went home. Hallee’s cousin then posted the photo online, asking people to send Hallee a letter, as she loves getting mail.
The post quickly went viral, and the family got more things that what they had asked for.
“Hal loves getting mail — this would be the best birthday gift she could ask for. If you could find it in your heart to take a few mins out of your day and send her a card, I would be forever grateful.”
