Team USA Keeps Showing Up With These Mysterious Dots, But What Are They?
The 2016 Rio Olympic are off to an impressive start! But what are those red dots all over the athletes?!
Michael Phelps, winner of 19 Olympic gold swimming medals, appeared on Sunday night covered in these dots. Since then, people have been seeing them on a number of other swimmers and gymnasts from Team USA.
It soon became apparent they’re the result of an ancient practice called “cupping”, and apparently, it’s the lasted fad among the US Olympic team. which seems to be the latest fad among the US Olympic team.
By placing heated glass cups over the skin, a suction is created that increases blood flow throughout the skin. It is supposed to relieve aches and pains after exercises. The red-purple marks are caused by the suction power that breaks small blood vessels under the skin.
Gymnast Alex Naddour told USA Today about his little secret: “That’s been the secret that I have had through this year that keeps me healthy. It’s been better than any money I’ve spent on anything else.”
