Indianapolis School Principal Dies While Saving Students From Oncoming Bus
Susan Jordan, a principal at a Indianapolis elementary school, is being held a local hero after she gave her life in order to save 2 10-year-old students from an oncoming school bus
A school bus was out of control at the Amy Beverland Elementary School and was going to run over 2 students had it not been for Susan Jordan. The two 10-year-old students ended up hospitalized with some injuries afterwards.
Buses were lined up outside the school when the accident happened around 2:45 p.m.
“At some point, the stationary bus lurched forward and jumped the curb. The bus was not moving at the time directly before it jumped the curb,” Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Reith
The bus driver says that she isn’t sure what had caused the bus to accelerate out of control:
“in the instant that the accident occurred”
Jordan had dedicated 22 years of her life to the school, and was much appreciated by all the staff and faculty.
“This is a great example of an educational leader in our state and our city. … Just a phenomenal individual that truly cared about children. This is a tragic situation that we have. This loss is going to ripple across our district of 15,000 students,” – Lawrence Township Schools Superintendent Shawn Smith
Our prayers go out to the family that Principal Jordan has left behind.
