After struggling for 8 years with infertility, she was blessed with news of a pregnancy. Sadly, the pregnancy ended in the second trimester. She got this tattoo in remembrance of her baby that never became part of this world.

“For eight years I have struggled not to let myself be defined by infertility. It’s hard not to, especially when my abdomen is covered in scars from the surgeries and procedures. Our most recent IVF pregnancy ended in the second trimester, and it was devastating. I knew I needed a positive physical reminder, and I chose a tattoo of baby footprints on my forearm. The tattoo artist suggested making the feet a little larger, and I hesitantly allowed him to.
Seeing the tattoo on my arm every day has lifted the weight of grief just enough to keep going.
Out of curiosity, I looked up the size of my unborn baby’s feet at the time he died. Then I measured my tattoo, just to see how close in size it was. The tattoo is the exact same size as his feet. It was a miraculous serendipity, and I love it.
It reminds me that, in the face of loss, there is always hope.”

In response to her baby feet tattoo, Laura Cain posted this picture of her own tattoo. It is the tattoo of her baby Jamie’s heart beat from her very last ultrasound. It is a replica of the exact same heartbeat recording.
