Two Young Reporters Are Remembered For Their Hard Work And Inspiring Attitudes

24-year-old Alison Parker and 27-year-old Adam Ward, both members of the news crew for WDBJ7, were shot and killed during a live interview in Moneta, Virginia.

Alison had just turned 24 and recently became a morning reporter, stationed in Virginia. She was dating news anchor Chris Hurst for nearly 9 months, and the two recently moved in together.

“Throw anything at the girl and she can do it,” her colleagues share.

Adam was a Virginia Tech graduate and photojournalist for the news station. He was also engaged to Melissa Ott, and the two were to be married next year.

“Adam was a delightful person. He worked hard – you could tell he loved what he was doing. He wasn’t afraid to pitch in and do whatever was necessary for the broadcast. He did whatever was needed with a smile and with grace. He was simply a very nice young man and very professional,” said Robert Denton, professor and chair of the Department of Communication.

Alison and Adam were partners who worked together all the time. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of these two innocent victims.

“Holy Lord,
We cry out for mercy as our world seems to get increasingly more and more violent. Please Lord, open up the hearts and minds of the people in our world to the idea that violence is never the answer. We ask that you be the families of the two WDBJ7 employees who needlessly had their lives taken from them this morning. Lay a hedge of protection and comfort over them Lord as they wonder why this happened.
In Christ’s holy name we pray,
