‘I have your back’ – Man stands guard as deputy pumps gas
Lake County sheriff’s deputy David Causey noticed a man acting suspiciously while he was pumping gas into his department SUV at a Eustis RaceTrac.
With it being only days after the Dallas attack that left six police officers and 10 wounded, he was concerned.
He posted on social media,
“I noticed this gentleman show up out of nowhere, standing behind my patrol car scanning the area (apparently better than I had been).”
The man had stood in the same spot until he had finished filling up the SUV. Causey wrote that the man told him, “Thank you sir for what you do. I have your back.”
Causey said that he was in shock. “I just kind of just stood there in shock, that an elderly man was willing to possibly put himself in danger to help me, a complete stranger.”
At the end of it all, the man then walked across the parking lot, got into his vehicle, and drove away without giving the officer his name.
According to WFTV, The man was later identified as Casey DeLoach, a 73-year-old Army veteran.
DeLoach says that he has been standing guard for law enforcement officers since 2015 when a Texas deputy named Darren Goforth was shot and killed at a gas station.
Causey says that the encounter was “amazing.”
