Mary Beth Eslary and her husband Lt. Eric Eslary were a big happy family with 6 kids. They had a picture perfect life, that is until the day that Mary got the call no wife wants to get.

The news came early one morning after Mary kissed her husband goodbye and said their I love You’s. Her husband had been hit head-on by a wrong-way driver and killed. The family was devastated.

“That was the one rule. You always say, ‘I love you,’ before you leave because you never know. I did give him a big kiss that night. I actually started laughing when he said, ‘This is the only night I work this week. I’ll be back.’ He told me to make sure there was a snack for him in case he came home in the middle of the night to grab a quick snack. He never did.” – Mary Beth Eslary said.

She quickly rushed to the scene of the crime, and there she found Blek, Eric’s beloved K9 partner. Blek was upset and refused to leave Eric’s side until he saw Mary.

Blek was taken to the emergency vet care, where he was treated for extremely serious injuries and miraculously survived. The handsome dog went home to Eric’s wife and kids.

In the memory of her late husband, Mary created these beautiful photos to honor him.

“I’m not sure how I’m going to get through it. I will. I’m not sure how yet. Everywhere I look, he’s here. I’m going to make him proud with these dogs he’s left me with. I’m just going to try to continue loving him and making him proud.”

Our prayers go out to all the men and women who are putting their lives in danger on the daily to bring peace to our communities. May God bless you all!
