Careful On Craigslist
A Miami woman named Danielle Jones, was attacked and severely beaten into a coma by a roommate that she found through an ad on Craigslist. The suspect, named Byron Mitchell, is now being held without bond for a charge of attempted murder while Jones remains in serious condition “on ventilator support with various face and skull fractures, multiple injuries to include multiple cuts on her face,” according to Jones’ mother Aimee Cabo Nikolov.
The attack, which took place on February 14th, was also Jones’ 23rd birthday. NBC News 6 says that “the 23-year-old was working with a catering company and living in a Downtown Miami apartment, when she found a roommate on Craigslist two weeks ago.” The attack was allegedly carried out by 35-year-old Byron Mitchell, who launched the assault a week after moving in with the victim. The victim was “bludgeoned, strangled and facially mutilated in an attempted murder,” as the family describes the attack.
Jones’ family says they hope that their story will help to make people more cautious about meeting strangers they are unfamiliar with on craigslist. Their hope is that by “Bringing attention to this may raise some type of awareness for other people to be careful because I can’t explain in words how hard it is to see her like this,” they told NBC 6 News.
The gofundme page for Danielle has been set up to help pay for medical bills, as well as updating the public with information about her current condition. They continue, saying, “Daniel is still in a coma, intubated and holding on to life…If and when she wakes, she will need extensive care and rehabilitation.”
The family is asking everyone for their prayers.
